About the domain sourcing service

Our domains have been hand-picked from the thousands of expired domains that are sold each week. We’ve carried out all the necessary due diligence to ensure that the domains don’t carry any baggage, have great metrics, and importantly have a backlink profile that would be ripe for an affiliate website. As part of this service we offer a fully hands-off service that includes:

  • Extensive due diligence
  • An in-depth keyword plan
  • A range of content packages offering thousands of words of awesome content created by our in-house native English speaking team of writers
  • An affiliate site including all necessary plugins (AAWP to be purchased separately due to licensing restrictions)
  • Content formatted and uploaded to your new site using our proven to convert templates
  • A site finished and ready to earn you money

About the Domain:

The purpose of the domain was purely to provide – original recipes, restaurant reviews, and culinary adventures from a Seattle-based blogger, formally educated at the Culinary Institute of America and informally educated in the kitchens of her parents, grandparents, and friends.

The categories consisted of the following:

  • About
  • Brush With Fame
  • Cooking Classes
  • Publishing
  • Testimonials
  • Videos
  • Personal Chef Services

Even though there wasn’t a dedicated specific category page that was named “recipes” the domain shared recipes regularly.

Backlinks:

Even though the domain only has a DR 14, we have some really strong backlinks.
The domain has 187 referring domains.

Let’s take a look at the backlinks:

  • Feedburner.com (DR 93)
  • Latimes.com (DR 92)
  • Buzzfeed.com (DR 91)
  • Thekitchn.com (DR 86)
  • Prevention.com (DR 84)
  • Thedailymeal.com (DR 81)
  • Thebump.com (DR 78)
  • Oureverydaylife.com (DR 77)
  • Seattlemag.com (DR 75)
  • Justapinch.com (DR 72)
  • Foodista.com (DR 71)
  • Wideopeneats.com (DR 68)
  • and so much more…

We would like to point out that the referring domain graph is clean and nothing suspicious going on as well:

Backlink Relevance:

As we have just seen on some of the backlinks that the domain has, some are niche relevant, which is fantastic. However, just to be on the safe side, we also checked the backlink relevancy through Semrush to confirm this:

As you can see, we can safely say that the relevancy is certainly there.

Clean Up:

Every aged domain typically requires a clean-up process. This means that the best backlink pages other than the homepage would need to be recreated and redirected. A clean-up process is necessary in order for us to retain the authority (link juice) of the domain.

In this case, several pages would need to be re-created.

Anchor Text Profile:

The anchor text profile can tell us a lot about the health of the domain. A thorough inspection is required when it comes to aged domains in particular.

Ideally, once you have filtered the referring domain from highest to lowest on the anchor texts, you should expect to see either a naked anchor text at the top (e.g www.site.com) or the name of the site (e.g Niche Website Builders)

And in this particular case, the anchor text profile looks clean:

As we are seeing from the above screenshot, we have branded anchor texts right at the top, which is a very important and great sign.

Down the line, we are not seeing anything suspicious, so the anchor text profile is certainly passing our criteria.

The Strategy

When building content sites we generally recommend starting with informational content. Why? Because you can rank informational content more quickly and easily than commercial content. This allows the site to start gaining some traction before adding affiliate-based content or other monetary streams.

The faster you can build up traffic, the quicker you can start making some money with the site through Ad revenue. And when a site starts making money, you can use this income to supplement or cover any future growth.

Once the site has gained some momentum you can start adding in other revenue streams such as affiliate offers.

The Strategy For This Domain:

This domain falls into the food niche. The food niche is quite competitive, but there are ways and different ankles that we can tackle to achieve great success.

Here’s the plan we have in mind:

  • Food Guides – how to cook this, how to prepare that. Signs that X food has gone bad, etc.
  • Listicle types of content around different recipes (e.g 20 best overnight oats recipes, 30 easy lunch recipes on the go, etc)
  • Restaurants in X & Y city.

The monetization can come from cooking equipment, food products, etc.

The Competitors

Competitor research is essential in order for us to get an idea of what competitors within our authority or less are achieving, and the strategy they are using.

So, here’s the first one imhungryforthat.com – DR 18, so just slightly higher than us.

The domain is generating an IMPRESSIVE amount of traffic, considering its authority.

Nearly 317K per month…that’s right and that’s only based on ahrefs traffic, and ahrefs typically underestimates traffic by about 2-3x.

And no, they don’t have a ridiculous amount of posts, the domain has 498 posts!

Here’s what the domain is ranking for at the top

Certainly, a lot of content we can get inspired from.

The second competitor is flypeachpie.com – a DR 8, so much lower authority than us.

The domain is generating nearly 28K per month according to Ahrefs:

Let’s take a look at what they are ranking for:

The reason why we picked this competitor is due to something we noticed that we can certainly have that they don’t, and that’s a basic SSL certificate:

This means that Google will favor us much more when we come to tomb raiding their content, if they can rank for the content they are ranking for without an SSL certificate, that means outranking them shouldn’t be too hard. Also, remember, they are less authority than us!

Using the “Tomb-Raiding” technique we could target the best performing content on these competitors and also weaker competitors and use our competitive DR to rank on similar content. For more details on our Tomb Raiding technique, see here.
