NICHE EMPIRE PROJECT
Inside what it takes to build a profitable online property.
MONTH 12: OCTOBER 2019
A quick update from me this month as Adam and I prepare to launch some new services for you as you will have seen from our Facebook Group.
These are the headline moments for this month.
- Traffic up a further 19% from 6860 to 8453
- Google Impressions up from 152k to 167k
- Ad Revenue up from $24.51 to $31.90
- Keywords in ahrefs up from 5427 to 5468
- Link campaigns coming to a close but still 6 new links built
- 2 Guest Posts published
- Earnings went down slightly from $130.12 to $101.69.
Another decent increase of 19% in the number of sessions to the site. Google Impressions and clicks up slightly too. 152k to 167k and 4.52k to 5.1k respectively.
Below the graph shows search console for the lifetime of the site. Still on a nice gentle upward trend.
Record earnings this month at $130.12 with a nice split across locales.
Here is the breakdown:
Adsense was up a little to around $32. Which does account for 30% of the sites earnings but is still not great. I’m pretty sure we’ll hit the 10k vistors next month so I’ll move over to Ezoic to see if that brings me better results.
However, I’ve decided to stop Adsense from next month as I fear it may be impacting the revenue of the site. I’ve not invested any time in Ad placements, rather choosing to go with the Auto Ads option. For $30 a month it didn’t seem worth the time investment especially when the place is to move Ad Network.
It was the last straw when I saw Ads being place above the menu which too up two thirds of the page allow you to only scroll the bottom third of the page. I’ve cancelled the Ads on 1st November.
We’re only a month away from moving to Ezoic so I’m happy to lose the earning for now. It may even boost my affiliate income!
Making up for the a few months of reduced output due to issues with writers, I managed to publish 30 new articles this month, focusing mainly on a new sub-niche. I feel like I’ve cover most of the first niche now, so it’s time to expand.
It will be interesting to see how quickly content ranks in a new sub-niche.
Another nice increase in traffic from Pinterest this month. 1,122 vs 777 last month. I’m pretty happy at getting 1,000 sessions a month now from this alternative platform. Pretty cool. I continue to create pins for every new post and refresh them from time to time.
Skyscraper Link Building
I covered the detail around the skyscraper approach in the May blog.
I’m currently not actively building any links, mainly down to the time I have available. In an ideal world I’d never stop link building but in the real world my time is split.
Regardless, I still managed to build 6 new links this month as the campaign comes to a close and the last negotiations take place. ahrefs shows this is 75 referring domains in total. Not bad! Especially when you consider we have DRs 50,49,39 for 3 of those links. If you purchased those links directly, these could easily cost you $1,000+. And all for $37 with shotgun skyscraper + 1 guest post at $18 and of course the cost of the tools. But the average cost per link is crazy low.
I’m in the process of getting a new piece of skyscraper content written so will be ready for a new link building campaign soon.
We’re going to keep churing out the content for the new sub-niche and also look to open up other sub-niches too.
The current skyscraper piece is being written as I write this. Once it’s ready we’ll get back on the waggon building links.
I still have not managed to refresh any content using surfer but this remains on my list as a priority.
With a 15%-20% increase in sessions every month, that’s healthy. I’m hoping that we’ll see a big lift again soon as it’s been a while since we left the sandbox and I feel the effort put in to the site deserves it. SEO seems to happen like that. You work on a site hard and then traffic boost come in big leaps.
